Riverboat Gambler
One of the things I like about working for a larger law firm are the occasional social opportunities. One of the things I hate about working for a larger law firm are the occasional social opportunities.

Why this dichotomy? because it is a crap shoot as to whether I'll have a good time. I like my co-workers pretty well. They're a good bunch... for lawyers (and people who work around lawyers). But let's face it -- I'm not really about socializing with the people I work with and for. Nothing against them -- as I said, they're a really good bunch of people. But sometimes the fun factor isn't there.

Tonight, however, was spectacular. The firm acquired a river cruise on the potomac, and it was great. The weather was near perfect, the scenery was great, the boat went from the new hotel/convention center south of the new Wilson bridge, all the way down to Georgetown, with a little detour into the Anacostia basin. The food was good, the drinks were fine and the conversation was fun.

I'm glad I didn't pass!

That does sound like fun! Of course, a boat-full of stuffy lawyers doesn't really sound like fun, but we won't phrase it like that, b/c you are NOT a *stuffy* lawyer. Oh, and did I mention that glasses are a major turn-on? It's a Clark Kent thing. Use it.

You've hit the nail on the head. Fortunately no one was stuffy, and nor were folks innapropriately crazy.

Turn on, hmmm? I'll have to consider how I can use this. So far my wife hasn't seemed swayed by my new found charms, such as they are. Of course, since I'm only wearing them to read, she hasn't seen much of me wearing them...

Inquiring minds wonder, though, just how much of a turn on?

After hours parties can be weird. Sometimes I felt like there was nothing left to say that hadn't been covered at lunch or whatever. Getting along with co-workers is essential. I once left a job because I couldn't stand any of them. The social component is probably what I miss most about working.

see, I'd rather hang with you guys than with my co-workers. Nothing against them, but I have more fun with you and the other St. M volunteers and staff (with a couple of exceptions.)
